STARTER RING GEAR (MG TD & TF Parts) (** See Eng No/ **) (From 1951- 55)

Here's a new Starter Ring Gear (120 Teeth, 10.770" Flywheel) for the following models from MG  - 

MG

MG TD   (1250cc)                   (From 1951- 53)   ( ** From Eng/ No 9408 On **)     

MG TF   (1250cc & 1500cc)   (1953- 55)

(Not for earlier MG TD's of 1950- 51 (Up to Eng No/ 9408) which used a different 120 Teeth Ring Gear with a. Smaller 7.25" clutch and a smaller 10.370" Flywheel)

(This is for use with the later 8" (Up to Eng No/ 9408) Clutch and a 10.770" Flywheel).

This fits round your engine flywheel and the starter motor engages it's teeth to turn your engine.

With time the teeth become worn away and your starter motor will jam so that you have to rock the car back and forward in gear to free it off - then try again.

After more wear the starter motor will just skip over the teeth of the ring gear making a noise.

If either of these happen you need to buy this ring gear.

To fit this you have to take out the gearbox, remove your old ring gear by hacksawing it off.

You then have to heat up this new ring gear with a gas torch so that it expands. You then place it over your flywheel and it will cool and shrink to fit.
